Welcome to our newest website!
It is our goal at NorthwestRiverGuides.com to provide a simplified format for you to access our information about kayak classes and raft trips.  Our Portland based kayak school and raft company offers cutting edge curriculum and one of a kind experiences on the river.  Our fall and winter offerings include weekly pool classes, swift water rescue workshops, and kayak instructor certification courses.  It is always exciting training for our Costa Rica whitewater and surf trip which take us to the tropics for a few weeks  in December.  During the winter time we visit college and university outdoor programs to help educate and inspire our future outdoor leaders through photos and film.  Our spring programing is full of guide training courses in preparation for the spring run off, and a summer season of whitewater fun!
Our rafting program is developing, and our most popular river trip is on the Sandy River.  We also run trips to the Lower Clackamas, the Klickitat, the N.F. Santiam, and the Deschutes River.  Book a family adventure, or a team building corporate trip for your company outing.  We pride ourselves on being able to take you from the streets of Portland, to a prestine wilderness river and back in one day.  Make your reservations today.  We run raft trips from March through October.
Our kids kayaking program is taking shape and we just acquired 5 slalom racing boats from US National Team Members in Washington DC this year.  We are recruiting more kids into our program and we will be running classes at the Multnomah Athletic Club this fall/winter.  Kids need to be at least 60 pounds, and be confident swimmers.

On the philanthropic side of things….
This year we successfully spun off a non-profit called We Love Clean Rivers.  WLCR is focused on turning river restoration into river recreation.  Our seventh annual Down the River Cleanup  September 13th was another great success thanks to the board, the director, all the key volunteers, and the general public.  Our goal is to create enough of a critical mass of volunteer help from the paddling community during the Down the River Cleanup that it initiates a paradigm shift throughout the greater community.  We are starting to see results.  Check out www.WeLoveCleanRivers.org to find out how to get involved.
This year, we also became major sponsors in the creation of TeamRiverRunnerPDX.org.¬† Team River Runner is a non-profit that was started in Washington DC as a program that uses paddle sports as a means of healing and therapy for disabled American Veterans.¬† NRG along with DAV Chapter #1 PDX sponsored a Portland team to compete in the Sea to Ski Adventure Race in Bellingham, WA (The largest Adventure race in the Northwest with canoe and sea kayak legs).¬† The subsiquent video that we produced helped pave the way for our work with the Blinded Veterans of America.¬† These programs drive right to the core of our tenents “Education, Exploration, and Stewardship.”
Our Century Paddle slated for August 30th, 2010 is our annual sea kayak trip from Willamette Falls, OR to Warrenton OR on the coast.  This 5 day 4 night trip is fully supported, and takes you from the Portland area to the Pacific.
